Gibson Jimi Hendrix Model Guitar

Jimi Hendrix Gibson Flying V

The folks over at Gibson are apparently going to make a Jimi Hendrix signature model guitar. I find this a bit curious. While yes it is true he did play a Gibson Flying V on occasion, I think we all know Jimi’s main guitar was a Fender Stratocaster. If they were to do a Jimi Hendrix Flying V, that would be cool, but from the sound of the article that’s not what this is going to be. These guitars are “inspired by” Jimi Hendrix.

Will this guitar be a left handed guitar or a right handed guitar strung upside down? Will a right handed player need to buy a left handed guitar? Will Gibson be making a Strat body with single coil pickups? So many possibilities. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I think it’s pretty interesting that all the pictures in the Gibson article conveniently omit the guitar being played by Jimi.

What are your thoughts on a Gibson Jimi Hendrix model guitar?

UPDATE:
The guitar has been revealed.

It’s just another way to milk a few more dollars out of collectors on the back of a dead legend.

wow what a beaut. The result of the style and flair of Hendrix composed onto an object, this guitar was one of a kind and i believe it should be kept that way as a monument to a legend. I hope Gibson find a way to see beyond monetary value.
