In honor of the new Wolfmother album Cosmic Egg, I’m doing a cover of their song Dimension found on their self titled debut album. I actually saw Wolfmother live this weekend at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit concert. It was an all acoustic set, which is a bit different than you’d expect from Wolfmother (the entire concert is acoustic). I’m also going to be seeing them next month at the amazing Oakland Fox Theater (if you haven’t been there, its a great venue).

I was sitting around reading the latest issue Of Guitar Aficionado and there was an article about the Gibson Sunburst Les Paul from 1958-1960. In it, they write how Eric Clapton was the first to really popularize the guitar for a lot of the 60’s British guitarists. Jimmy Page was quoted as saying “Eric was the first one to evolve the sound with the Les Paul and Marshall amps”. In the article Guitar Aficionado write about how the John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers albums shows off what Clapton was doing with the Les Paul Sunburst, in particular the song Hide Away (a Freddie King remake).

If you watch HBO’s True Blood, then you know the opening song, Bad Things by Jace Everett. Actually, if it weren’t for True Blood, I wouldn’t know the song at all. A new feature I’m going to have here is a lesson recap every time I have a lesson with my instructor. These my vary from every week to every two weeks depending on my schedule. In these posts you’ll get to see what I’m learning in my lessons. For me, it will be a great re-cap and force me to get a grasp on what I just learned. My lessons are on Thursday, so I’ll make these posts of Friday.

As I posted last week, I went out and tested a EHX Big Muff Pie and a Analogman Sunface NKT 275. The one fuzz box I wanted to try but didn’t because nobody had one available locally was the Keeley Fuzz Head. When I was listening to samples of fuzz boxes, the Keeley was actually my favorite out of them all. But obviously you can’t tell anything about how somethings really going to sound off of a YouTube video. Even trying them out in the store only gives you a little idea of how it will work for you. It’s not until you get things home and use it with your gear that you’ll really know how you’ll like it.
