As I posted last week, I went out and tested a EHX Big Muff Pie and a Analogman Sunface NKT 275. The one fuzz box I wanted to try but didn’t because nobody had one available locally was the Keeley Fuzz Head. When I was listening to samples of fuzz boxes, the Keeley was actually my favorite out of them all. But obviously you can’t tell anything about how somethings really going to sound off of a YouTube video. Even trying them out in the store only gives you a little idea of how it will work for you. It’s not until you get things home and use it with your gear that you’ll really know how you’ll like it.

I had a productive weekend. The biggest change around here is obviously the new theme. I’m still working out some smaller details, but I think I’m pretty happy with where things are at the moment. I’ve been working on this non-stop for the last 8 hours so it’s time to call it a wrap for the day.
Let me know what you think of the new theme, and more importantly, if you have any problems.
I’ve also got a couple other posts lined up for the next couple days, so check back.

The other day I posted about my first guitar lesson and touched on the CAGED system. I wanted to follow up that post with some more detail, mainly for my own learning process. If I write it down in my own words it helps me remember.
Above are the five major chord shapes an their scales. My instructor points out that for the most part you’re not going to use a lot of the shapes when playing bar chords. Since you can play any chord with any of the shapes, it doesn’t make sense to use the D shape to play a C chord when the A or E shape is so much easier. And after trying to play the D shape, I agree. Maybe once I get better I can venture into the more difficult shapes.

I’m pretty sure I don’t need to tell you about It Might Get Loud, but I’m pretty excited to see the release dates that were recently announced. Unfortunately I don’t live in New York or Los Angeles, who get it next Friday… but at least San Francisco gets it a little bit sooner than other places. I know where I’ll be August 28th.

After Effects Bay’s post yesterday I wrote about being inspired to check out the EHX Big Muff Pie fuzz box. Well, today I went down to Haight Ashbury Music Center to give it a try along with an Analogman Sun Face NKT 275. I did some research last night on various fuzz effects and after hours of watching YouTube videos, I narrowed my selection down to the EHX Big Muff Pie w/ Wicker switch, the Analogman Sun Face NKT 275, and the Keeley Fuzz Head. The only one I couldn’t test today was the Keeley Fuzz Head as they were out of stock.
