Gibson Jimi Hendrix Model Guitar Revealed

Jimi Hendrix Gibson Guitar

Well, it looks like we might have some answers to the questions I was asking on my post the other day about the Gibson Jimi Hendrix Model guitar.

While, the pics on this Gibson blog post don’t specifically say they are of the new Jimi Hendrix inspired guitars, I think we can probably assume that’s what they are (one of the raw guitars has JMH scribbled on it).  And we can see that Gibson is in fact doing a Stratocaster style body with single coil pickups.

Here is an article on the launch.  Based on the pricing, these are not going to be high end models.  The highest priced model in the line at $450US is The “Experience” Package and will come with an official “Jimi Hendrix signature electric guitar” and some accessories such as a Jimi Hendrix Signature “Voodoo Child” amplifier, a Foxey Fuzz pedal, a deluxe padded gig bag, an instructional DVD, an electronic tuner, two guitar cables, a Hendrix inspired strap, three picks and a USB drive containing exclusive Hendrix media content.

While that’s all and good for a child or beginner (and I do see the irony in saying that since that’s what I am… a beginner, not a child), I think one of the greatest guitarists of all time deserves a little better.  Fender?  Step up please!

Personally I think they missed an opportunity to have the official Jimi Hendrix lighter fluid included in the package.  If ever there were a guitar that should be set on fire, this could be it.

UPDATE:  Check out Fender’s response to the Gibson Jimi Hendrix debacle here.

UPDATE UPDATE:  Did they already cancel the Jimi Hendrix guitar?

  1. Often people find it difficult to play the guitar simply because they’re holding it incorrectly, and forming a habit that’s difficult to break later on. If you’re standing, the guitar should be in a comfortable position, but secure enough that it won’t fall. If you’re sitting, you should be in an area large enough so that the guitar doesn’t knock into anything.

Actually, according to the Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide 2009, Fender has done a Jimi Hendrix Monterey Pop Strat 1997-1998 valued at $6500-$8000 USD; a Jimi Hendrix Tribute Strat (left handed) 1997-2000 $1400-$1700 USD, and a Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Strat (right handed) 1997-2002 $1400-$2000 USD.

I’m still not sure why Gibson is doing a Fender body.

Gibson have officially gone crazy. Honestly who thought it was a good idea for Gibson to make a stratocaster? Gibson really needs to get back in touch with reality.
